By including a spotlight I will be able to allow the user to see as they walk around in the game, to add this i created a new light source and attached it to the character file and then chose how intense i wanted the light, and the radius of the light casted.

By using the coding system blueprints, I managed to make the game run at night time.

All of the coding runs in a sort of flow chart mechanism, the above screen shot shows the code to make it night in the game, this will make the atmosphere more suspenseful as oppose to braud daylight.

I have managed to get a three year subscription to Maya 2015 free for being a student. I am using this to create my character.

I am using a reference plane of a model human to get the shape right first, i can then manipulate it to what I want. I am using tutorials from you tube to do this.
I asked people 'What do you find frightening either a place, person or thing?' here.

From my answers I have considered them all, and adapt the theme park to a zoo after hours. from this I will be able to create a background story of why the player is there and what they are looking for. they will be a security guard in an office with a call of disturbance which needs looking into, from here they will bump into my evil character with suspense along the way.

A long with watching the tutorials on using the Unreal engine I have been putting it together and testing out the features I may include such as placing textures on put down objects, placing lighting to cast shadows and getting the low lit atmosphere, the particle effects such as smoke and sparks. below is a screenshot from my test, I have started to put together my three dimensional world.

Story idea

After watching current horror films such as 'Deliver us from Evil' I saw the creepy atmosphere of a zoo after closing times, I could recreate this atmosphere in my own way for the VR but doing this I would struggle in trying to incorporate the Leap motion, if it was indoors I could have used it to open doors ect.

The game could be the player as the zoo security getting called to take a look at certain disturbances around the zoo, with scares along the way until you meet the main scary character. I will use a lot of sounds to build tension and scare the player.

I also asked a few people what they found scary or had they ever been scared in a situation, clowns were popular in the scary list so I would like to include a menacing one at the end. after hours carnival was another, so I may include some of the features from this.

Try out

I booked out a DK 1 oculus rift from the university to have a go on the horror games that are already out, I let people on the games to see their reactions to various scares to see what was most effective and I have an idea of what to include to scare people. I also asked for a leap but they had none available, I had a go on one in a lesson instead. I would like to include the leap somehow in my game as it makes the experience more physical and therefore more immersive.
